I would go again and again. The views are incredible. We were able to see a bear, turkeys, horses and deer up close and personal.
The old cabins are so neat to see and the old churches are br Kind of bored me. Got there early on a weekday around 9 to avoid too much traffic which worked. Enjoyed driving the better with all the great pull offs and river vie Beautiful scenery in the meadows with mountains as the backdrop.
This provides great pics of the kids. Saw a few turkeys, an 8 point buc You drive through at your own pace. There are places to pull over and get out to walk and see the historic homes and churches.
Very nice way to spend an afternoon. There is also a campground if you want to stay there. A nice drive around the 11 mile loop road. If you are up for a nice hike to a waterfall go to Abrams Falls. Bring a lunch and eat at the falls.
The hike is up and down hills. Some slippery rocks at times. You need to be sure footed to hike. Also on certain days you can bike the loop road without any car traffic in the mornings. Check the website for those days and times.
If you are lucky you may even see a bear or 2. Lots of wildlife everywhere. If you want to see bears the best time to go is in the spring.
This place is gorgeous and worth the trip. The only problem is everyone else also knows it and it can get very crowded.
Its 11 miles of drive and you can go hiking as well. There are hike trails properly marked and ample parking. Really beautiful scenery with open fields and mountains. We saw bears, coyotes and different deers.
There are various spots where you can stop and take pictures. If you see lot of cars at one place, it means definitely some wildlife.
